2. Use the back end of your tail comb to make a side parting. This is where you'll be attaching the clip-in extension.

3. Neatly attach the clip-in extension to the line of the side parting that you made. Ensure that the extension is securely clipped to the hair and that it is done as neatly as possible. You don’t want people to be able to see the line of the extension when you’ve completed the style.

How to apply clip-in hair extensions

4. Use the back end of your tail comb to make another parting, and then clip this section of hair up with a crocodile clip. This is the section of hair that you will use later on to disguise the line where you inserted the clip-in extension. Make sure you give yourself enough hair to work with.

5. Neatly comb the hair at the back to the side. Spray the hair with hairspray and comb it again. Work as neatly as you can, as this will ensure that you have less tidying up to do at the end. When you have extensive hair to try to tidy at the end, you risk ruining the hairstyle by combing stray hair.

How to create a French roll

6. Insert bobby pins slightly off-center at the back of the head from the parietal ridge to the nape area, in a criss-cross fashion. This creates the structural line of your French roll. Make sure that the bobby pins are secure and aren’t pulling painfully at any hairs of your model.

7. Roll your hair up as neatly as possible to form the roll of the French roll. Comb and spray as you go to ensure a neat outcome. Secure the roll with bobby pins discreetly inserted in the fold between the roll and the scalp. Make sure that the bobby pins are not visible.

8. Spray and gently comb the hair with the end of your teasing comb, from the front of the hairline to the roll, to flatten any stray hairs. Do this very carefully and gently, as you can ruin the precision of the style if you comb unevenly.

9. Unclip the previously separated section of hair at the front. Gently backcomb and comb this section with your teasing comb, taking care not to disturb the surrounding hair. Comb this section over the parting where you attached the extension to disguise this line. The model's hair must appear uniform with the extensions, creating a seamless and seemingly natural line.

10. Comb and spray this section from its origin to the back of the roll, taking care not to disturb the rest of the hair. Spray and comb gently to flatten any stray hairs and neaten the surface of the style.

11. When you’re satisfied with the neatness of the surface, discreetly secure the ends of this section at the back of the roll. Again, make sure that one cannot see the bobby pins and that the surface of the hair is uniform and seamless.

12. Use the back end of your tail comb and very gently lift the height between the parietal ridge and occipital bone to create an aesthetically pleasing and flattering silhouette from the side. By creating a bit of height in this area, you improve the proportion of the side view, which is very important in photos, especially bridal or prom shoots.

13. Insert a hair accessory of your choice at an angle on the side of the roll, and secure it with discreetly placed bobby pins. The hair accessory should be on the side of the hair extension, as this is the side that will be focused on the most.

14. Note that the line where the extension is attached is undetectable. The hair is seamless and uniform, disguising the extension's point of origin.
